Many ask, "Why grind coffee beans just before brewing?" Actually, it's not necessary. However, it is highly recommended for optimal taste. Because coffee that has been grounded and then stored in a container changes its aroma and taste faster than storing whole coffee beans.
Grinding coffee just before brewing can maintain the freshness and character of the taste and aroma of the coffee. Consistency is the main key when you grind coffee. The scale of the coffee grinder will follow the brewing method you will use. By grinding coffee to the size recommended for a particular brewing method. Therefore, we need our own coffee grinder so we can make the coffee grind as needed. Typically, coffee grinders are divided by grinder: Blade grinder, Burr grinder, and Conical grinder. Each grinder has its own advantages and disadvantages.
Blade Grinder
The cheapest and easiest grinder. You just press the button and wait. the coffee beans will grind as long as you hold down the button. The size is not a hassle, very easy to carry everywhere. Because the size is not too large, this tool can grind the fastest compared to other tools. Very suitable for basic needs. It can be from a fine grind for espresso, to coarse like a French Press. The downside is that the grind size is sometimes uneven, and when the blade gets hot, it can slightly change the taste of the coffee. Another disadvantage is the sound. Because the blade grinder is like the blender you use, the blade grinder sound is sometimes quite annoying.
Actually, the burr grinder I described above is a wheel / flat type burr grinder and what I mean by a conical grinder is a conical burr grinder, but I prefer to divide it into its own type. The difference between Burr (flat) and Conical is the shape of the knife. Conical grinder is the best grinder you can buy. It's just that, the price is the most expensive among the three models. And because the rotation is slower, the resulting sound is small. Also, this type of grinder rarely gets clogged if you grind flavored coffee as well as oily coffee.
After you know the types of grinders, you also need to know about the level of fineness of coffee and its uses. The level of fineness of the grind for espresso is distinctly different from the french press. If you grind it too coarsely for the espresso, the espresso is not as good and will taste bland (like water).
